Quesion 1-In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Refer back to your research and music video conventions – what conventions did you use that are seen in music videos?
The popular media conventions we used for our pop genre consisted of the way in which our artist was dressed in in trend, fashionable clothing that our target audience would relate too. As they would shop in shops such as Topshop where our outfit is purchased from. In the pop genre the artists are expressed in a very sexual and seductive manor as a method of luring the audience in.

The artist was to be dressed in a provocative way in order to open up our target audience to males aswell as women. This is clear through the use of the male gaze used upon Amber within the music video and by the outfit she is wearing. Although she does follow this key convention of sexualized dress from the shiny colloutes and belly top. she also challenges the pop genre conventions as she is not dressed in a little body suit with lots of flesh out she still presents a classy aspect to her young adult audience that some artists such as Miley Cyrus des not present.

Dua Lipa New Rules is one song we can compare our music video too the best. The first reason for this being the use of the big slumber party theme being created around a romance and a break up. Where as ours covers a relationship which is too a followed generic convention as Charli XCX is seen to be getting close to a boy at the party she turns up at. Furthermore, the outfits are following the pop genre conventions as they are mainstream outfits both have a quirky edge to them within both Dua Lipas song and our own music video. However, the media conventions both Dua Lipa and we challenged was both the artists were placed in a piece of clothing that covered them up for Dua Lipa the loose baggy quirky skirt and skort and for us it was the use of the pink fur in style jacket and then sparkly trousers. Where as, if we followed the media conventions all of our dancers would have been dressed in next to nothing along with our artist as nowadays the pop genre supports this bare skin. The use of our dancers further follows the typical media conventions as in music videos such as Beyonces- Run the World and in Dua Lipa New Rules it shows womens empowerment. We followed this within our music video and didn't challenge this by making our pop artist solo. As it follow our upbeat song it is clear that we follow the pop music conventions as the music is very dance orientated and hits our target audience perfectly of young adults as teens are often viewed as partying, clubbing and dancing which is occurring within our video. It also meets the conventions as the artist is seen as having a great night at the party and laughing and smiling throughout the entirety of our video. In contrast to Dua Lipa where she is actually given a lesson love instead of being happy in love but both of these do still meet the pop genre conventions. Both following the conventions of being based around love and a relationship as Dua Lipa speaks of not answering the phone and moving on where as Charli XCX is about living life on the edge as a teenager does and having fun with one boy and her friends. The music genre is conveyed through the use of the party with all of the LED lights, balloons etc. However, some parts of the video such as the fireworks and the artist in front of the white screen wouldn't make you link it to a party without the rest of the video so therefore, some aspects do challenge the music video conventions. Within Charli XCXs new video she features in with David Guetta & Afrojack - Dirty Sexy Money feat. French Montana. There is also the use of the mouth and animation used throughout as it is in trend right now. Artists want to do what audiences are going to buy.

The artists hair and make up was done to perfection and within our digipak and magazine advert we even used Photoshop in order to make our artist as realistic as she could be when being compared to other famous artists. As the audience expect to see these things for example perfect make so they idolise her. Or her clothing so they buy the same outfits everything leads to the promotion of our artist. The use of the animation is now more widely used but this is not something we were able to include due to the amount of capital we had available to create a realistic party. Furthermore, the length and the repeated chorus presents that we have followed the pop convention as they repeat the chorus several times.  The final way in which we challenged the pop genre conventions was through having low production values and the use of no animation within our video the main reasons for this being we didn't have enough money to make our video in this way. Our pop magazine did infact follow the conventions of the real media products as it was in bright positive colours that our audience would be drawn too.
