Why we have music videos
The main reasons that we have music videos are to advertise the artist and the record label behind them in ways that will gain the most capital for both the artist and the company. Furthermore, music videos allow artists to be able to express their feelings not only through their voice but furthermore can take fans on a journey through their thoughts and feelings through imagery in their music video. Music videos allow us as an audience to be able to enter a place with the artist if the imagery we are seeing is the same as theirs. For example Birdy people help the people is a song that i really love and the music video she came up with shows to me who she is as an artist and that we share similar qualities within emotions. Through watching music videos you are able to see the journey of the singer and relate in some circumstances.
It is also one of the most effective marketing tools and promotional ideas as one it goes out on YouTube and people see it and like it. Especially if it is catchy, like Gangnam Style or What does the fox say? it ends up going viral even if it is a one hit wonder. Proving the internet is the most powerful technique we currently have to be able to release videos at speed. Music videos for artists such as Ed Sheeran and James Arthur are especially effective as they are both emotional artists that are often relating their work to love songs and break ups alongside Adele.
Music videos often tell us a story for instance they can hold messages for empowerment eg Beyonce who forever teachers girls to be strong and proud of who they are along with Lily Allen. They can hold political messages like Katy Perry did and talk about all of us being sheep following eachother and needing to be pricked by reality as well as speaking of house prices falling. Black Eyed Peas spoke about terrorism and being frightend of the world we live in and to share love and unite. N Dubz spoke about putting protection on to prevent having a child with someone you are not right for. Dua Lipa speaks of gettig over someone and finding something and someone better in yourself through being strong. Rappers like Stormzy relates too those in more physically deprived areas such as where Grenfall Tower building fell and his message through the song was to unite everyone come together and create funds to help the less fortunate that still remained. Music videos carry messages within them that either impact an audience and make them want to change or just there to listen too without a real message. Music videos hold a visual language that can only been fully understood through watching the music video this connects the artist and the listener. Music videos have to have a twist on them a new idea or reinvention of the wheel from a new artist that allows them to keep up to date with the latest trends in the music industry only real talent succeeds as a productive marketing device.

What you expect to see from music videos
From music videos you expect to be taken on a journey through interesting features and elements that can carry the whole video and make sure the viewer can keep on track with the story line of the video. From rap videos you expect to see flash cars, big houses, designer clothes, models, drugs and weapons. From music videos you expect to see an artists insight on real life this is why those from culturally deprived backgrounds who hold anti school subcultures may be drawn to watching other artists from similar backgrounds as themselves. For instance if the certification of a video is low and a teenage boy can see the drugs, money, cars and girls he may let his self for filling prophecy change as he is from a deprived area he doesn't believe he can do any better than anyone else from there. E.g. Business Academy Bexley - Thamesmead. This is a building Tony Blair built to try and deter children from believing they cannot achieve just because they are surrounded with high unemployment and council housing. A music video is also there to see the capital the artist has for example Adele or Sam Smith you would expect something with high performance values because they are so well recognised and popular worldwide.

I will now know what to include in my music video as i have stated what i expect from other music videos so will need to be including these features in my own music video to secure its success.
