Research into chosen artist

Charlotte Emma Aitchison, better known by her stage name of Charli XCX.  Was born in Stevenage England August 2nd 1992. She is a British singer and songwriter and has been writing her ow songs since just 14. Her debut single was released independently and she first started just performing in warehouse raves in London. She is both from an Indian and Scottish descent.  One of her most famous songs released was Boom Clap this electropop featured in The Fault in Our Stars. At the age of 14 Charli XCX was still Charlotte Emma Aitchison growing up in Hertfordshire having to loan from her parents to make an album. 16 years she was putting herself out there with drug users etc. in warehouse parties in east London to make sure she made it.in 2008 the Guardian belittled her and spat her out saying she was nothing more than a computer-pop Kate Nash. She released two albums, one never officially coming. The buzz managed to get her a deal with a subsidiary of the major label Atlantic. Although Charli XCX was excited she was still a young confused girl in school. Who wasn’t really that into pop but instead loved rap.  She was taken to LA where she later went onto find herself and wrote a song called I love it which was been rated the top 10 in 18 countries. She appeared on a guest for this track but has no regrets in doing so, she is also a feminist believer anything a man can do, and she can too alongside any other female artist out there. Furthermore, she has an all female backing band, she is herself a feminist and suffers with synaesthesia.

This will help me as I now know a little more about the way in which my artist grew up and have learnt about how she is surrounding different topics such as feminism and can now try and bring these qualities across, possibly in my own music video.

This moodboard i made presents the most powerful artists being females within the music industry at this current time. The reason as to why i believe Dua Lipa is an inspiration to women and being independent is through her new break up song 'New Rules' as it empowers women to not go back their ex. Miley Cyrus shows women you can be whatever you want to be and do whatever you want to do, however you choose to look just be yourself. Beyonce is an inspiration as she teaches everyone to love theirselves for who they really are and that its okay to be different. Arianna Grande is the most powerful role model since her Manchester tour attack and she went back to the building it happened in and hundreds of people died in order to show solidarity and the love for her fans after the tragic event. Taylor swift, Rhianna and Adele make women feel good about themselves and their songs often relate to relationship hard times and breakups. Katy Perry is a true symbol of politics and stands up and writes about what she believes in no matter how people may take it. Eg. Chained to the rhythm. Lily Allen- Hard out here speaks especially about what it is like to be a female artist in the music industry or a female in general because we all are meant to be perfect sizes with clear skin etc and she is mocking it saying this is now real. Which is standing up for a natural women.

This will help when making my own music video because i now know more about more artist at the type of artists she is also similar too. Furthermore, i now know her history as an artist and the background of her and several similar artists.
