The importance of lyrics

Title: The Importance of Lyrics 


The idea of the task was to get a set of lyrics that we had not seen before and begin to analyse them in detail, looking at specific lyrics within the song itself. The song i was to analyse the lyrics of was Evanescence- My Immortal. This was too a music video i had not seen before and therefore, meant i could only go off of my initial ideas. Furthermore, i have learnt from this that lyrics need to really relate to the video in order for the audience to be able to follow the artists journey.

  However, not all artists do this and choose instead too put their own twist on their videos. By viewing these lyrics i had not viewed before or watched the music video to, meant that i was able too process my own thoughts on what i believe happened within the video before watching it for the first time myself. And comparing my own meaning to the artist themselves. This will help me when making my own music video as i now know that people can have many different ideas on what your lyrics mean, but sometimes you need the lyrics to fit the song at hand so people are able to connect with your music e.g. for artists like Adele and Sam Smith who pull on peoples heartstrings. 

 25 word pitch- Alone, quiet, sad sitting heartbroken flicking through memories can't move on, feeling like a fool wishing she could turn back time feeling used and lost.

Music Video Target Audience

We made the music video in order to be able to discover who music videos are aimed at and what their favourite type of music video is for that particular age range. We did this by coming up with our own questionnaires that would allow a range of demographic groups to present their view and trends of music videos through a selection of open ended questions. The demographic that music videos appeal to on a whole is the younger generation however, it is clear that some middle age and above still enjoy watching a music video from time to time. My reasoning for this being my result is because teenagers are constantly using social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram etc and therefore, spend more time viewing music videos on you tube because they have more free time on their hands. The purpose of a music video is to influence those people who are interested in purchasing the song to buy into the video. Its most important purpose is too sell the song and evoke a reaction so it leaves you remembering the song. secondly, the purpose of the music video is to give the listener a better understanding of the song. A music video is a promotional tool for the artist. Furthermore, it sells the artist as a product and gains more views widening the acknowledgement of the artist in the music industry. Musicians use music videos because they are a great way to present visual interpretations of the song. It is also one of the best ways in which an artist is able to market their singles that could potentially attract more fans to either listen to other songs on their album or purchase their single.
