Music Video Audiences

What to consider when thinking of target audience? Demographic groupings Content of music videos Demographic groups seen in the music video What will attract the audience? Language used  Music videos are aimed at people through their genre and the nature of the artist.  For example, an artist such as Justin Bieber would be in the demographic group of teenagers. This is because the majority of his songs are based around fling- type relationships. Whereas artists such as Adele, James Arthur and Sam Smith are older and therefore, their experience through love and the emotions within their songs are less pop like and more real and cold. So therefore, their demographic groupings would be for a middle aged and upward age range.   When you sing songs it is important that your audience is able to relate for instance if your target audience is of an older generation then it is more important to focus on making the song relatable rather than using slang and throwing s

Other Students Music Videos

Other students Music Videos Problem- By Arianna Grande  Other students Music Videos Mise en scene - there are some key locations shown within the piece such as the flames, white backgrounds, with a brick wall and in front of the fence. The choice of clothing for the male rapper and for Arianna was accurate with the big gold chain and a white tee with a hat for the male rapper which is stereotypical. The girls are all wearing funky outfits just like Arianna would with rips in her jeans and leather jackets.  Although it is almost forced to be exactly like Arianna herself and they should not try and be her they should be making there own version of it. The leather jacket, bright red lipstick and hoop earrings are similar to the dress sense Arianna herself would stick too. The use of non-diegetic sound within the piece also meant that their character was similar dress to the singer herself. The sound of the music in the clip wasn’t that clear and it wasn’t easy to hear all

Textual analysis of a music video

Textual analysis of a music video (The Black Eyed Peas- Where is the love?) Mise-en-scene -  There is a vast range of ethnicity and  represented within this video. Sterotypically, black people have been stereotyped as trouble makers in this music video through the policeman and the black boy. Furthermore, from the way in which black people are dressed presents them in a negative 'gangster' like way which deters people from wanting to socialise with them. Therefore, i believe that the question mark is asking why do we let other people control our thoughts, minds and feelings towards one another. Camera angles what angles are used and why?  The use of the low angle shot of this man makes him seem like he is vunerable he is shouting for help from above. Connotations of religion are given off by this as god and heaven are seen to be from up above. This low angle shot makes him look although he is tired and weary and whatever is above him he is wanting to cure his pain or

Alongside Guns and R

Music Video Target Audience Results Analysis

Image
Music video target audience results analysis I have found from my results that those who have carried out my questionnaires don’t often watch music videos this is from data of those at the age of 17. It is clear that people expect an engaging interesting video idea. They also expected for the song to have a real meaning. Those of my target audience enjoyed new songs from people like Dua Lipa and New Rules because it showed female empowerment. Whereas, disliking music that is no longer within the charts such as The Wanted glad you came and black magic by Little Mix. It was a clear winner that people who carried out my survey that were girls enjoyed performance the most however, some did say they enjoyed concept too.  It is also been made evident that those from 17 or below don’t really view music videos that much at all. It has therefore, brought me to the conclusion that middle ages tend to find real connections through music videos especially political problems like chained to the

Knowledge of Music Videos

Knowledge of music videos Why we have music videos The main reasons that we have music videos are to advertise the artist and the record label behind them in ways that will gain the most capital for both the artist and the company. Furthermore, music videos allow artists to be able to express their feelings not only through their voice but furthermore can take fans on a journey through their thoughts and feelings through imagery in their music video. Music videos allow us as an audience to be able to enter a place with the artist if the imagery we are seeing is the same as theirs. For example Birdy people help the people is a song that i really love and the music video she came up with shows to me who she is as an artist and that we share similar qualities within emotions. Through watching music videos you are able to see the journey of the singer and relate in some circumstances.  It is also one of the most effective marketing tools and promotional ideas as one it goes out on

Music Video Target Audience

Image
We made the music video in order to be able to discover who music videos are aimed at and what their favourite type of music video is for that particular age range. We did this by coming up with our own questionnaires that would allow a range of demographic groups to present their view and trends of music videos through a selection of open ended questions. The demographic that music videos appeal to on a whole is the younger generation however, it is clear that some middle age and above still enjoy watching a music video from time to time. My reasoning for this being my result is because teenagers are constantly using social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram etc and therefore, spend more time viewing music videos on you tube because they have more free time on their hands. However, although i believe from my results that is the largest audience of music videos those in the 60 and below category were brought up around music videos and therefore, would enjoy less well known ar

Goodwins Theory

Image
During 1992 Andrew Goodwin wrote a book which held 7 different aspects of theories of music video audiences. First and foremost, Goodwin believes that music videos demonstrate certain genre characteristics e.g. dance routines girl/boybands with girls looking good and bling for gangsters in rap videos. Dr Dre or Ice Cude are prime examples of 'throwing' signs in early hip hop videos. Further examples Jay Z and Kayne West Otis. Where they have flashy jewelery, cars and low angles to show their dominance of the camera. Each artist has a particular demographic they will appeal too and therefore, cater their music video to suit their target audience. Kayne does this with new cars and money attracting his young audience of boys and girls. Secondly, Goodwin believes there is a strong relationship between lyrics and visuals. They are often seen as illustrative but could amplify or choose to contradict lyrics in some cases. Within all of the lights bright strobe lights are actually

Real Media Texts- Music Video

This will help when creating my own music video because it highlights just how many shot types i have used. Furthermore, the number of shots in the first minute that occur. This has put into perspective just how much content i will actually need for my music video. First and foremost, to then be cut down and that a variation of shots must be used in order to reach band 4.  In my music video i will be sure to use Goodwins theories on audience as this will ensure those viewing the video are actually being targeted correctly. In my music video i am going to make sure i don't reinvent the wheel with the settings. I want to use subtle locations as i believe this will be far more effective as i have seen in other students videos such as one done of a Birdy song named Skinny Love by Cerys as this was set up in a woods but the actual video only included basic items such as a sofa, table, cutlery, chairs, a mirror and cups and saucers. In my music video i will use different types of sho
